Civil War Epaulettes belonging to John W. Penny of Co. K  1st NH Cavalry.  This unit was attached to the 1st Rhode Island Cavalry. Discharged for disabilities on 9/14/1864

Mass. Militia Staff Officers frock coat.  Has  Mass. Militia buttons overall and Lt. Colonel shoulder bars with black fields indicating a staff officers coat.

Cavalry Shell Jacket with "C" on the buttons indicating an officers jacket.  Believed to be unissued which explains the lack of shoulder straps.  Owner added VMM belt buckle with buff leather belt and 36 cal. Colt holster

Forage Cap belonging to Samuel Cromwell who was an artificer with the 1st Me. Heavy Artillery.  He was taken prisoner after the infamous charge on Colquitts salient at Petersburg, Va. on 6/18/64. He died of disease at Andersonville prison on 10/14/64.  Buried at Andersonville National Cemetery in grave #10936.  He was from Waterford, Me.

Sharpshooters forage cap with 1st Division of the 3rd Corp, Army of the Potomac insignias.  The 2nd US Sharpshooter Regt. were attached to this part of the Army and company "D" was raised in the state of Maine.

Quartermaster Sgt. Chevrons

Quartermaster Sgt. Chevrons belonging to Charles Dearing of the 16th Me Infantry.  He was taken POW on July 1st, 1863 when the 16th was left on the field to protect the retreat of the 11th and 2nd Corps through Gettysburg.  He was involved in tearing up the regimental colors to deny the confederates their battle trophy.  A fragment of the flag can be found in the personal items section of this site.

Very rare union dress uniform gloves.  These gloves belonged to Sgt Charles Dearing of the 16th Me Infantry.  POW at Gettysburg July 1st 1863.    These gloves were standard issue but were seldom used and most found secondary duty on the farm after the war.
