20th Maine Infantry Regt.
The 20th Maine Infantry Regt. was mustered into federal service on August 29th, 1862 with Col. Adelbert Ames as its commander and Lt. Col. Joshua Chamberlain as its second in command. It was attached to the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, V Corp of the Army of the Potomac where it remained until it was mustered out on July 16th, 1865. The unit participated in the Battle of Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania Courthouse,Petersburg Five Forks and Appomattox. At Fredericksburg the regiment's
